Founded in 1944, Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) opened its doors as the nation's first fashion school and remains today one of the world's premier institutions for educating students in the art and science of fashion design, merchandising, and retailing. What Does it Take to Get in?

There are many steps in the application process for FIT. The first step is to complete a personal statement and then submit an essay that includes why you want to attend FIT, what you plan to study there, and your career goals. 


In order to be considered for admission, applicants must also have completed at least six semesters of college level math and English courses. Once all application materials have been submitted, the Admissions Office will review them before reaching a decision on whether or not the student should be accepted.
